'Black & White Moggy'

Got back from a painting course at Art Holidays in Dorset, on Monday. This was painted as one of my evening demonstration paintings... next door's black and white moggy.
After sketching the outline with a 5B pencil onto 200lb Bockingford paper, I soaked the paper and then mixed colours on the page to create a soft, atmospheric foundation wash, lifting out some areas with a damp brush. Once it was dry, I began to build up the washes on dry paper. All in all, the painting took about an hour, from start to finish.

'Dartmouth'

I had my first workshop at the Butterfly Art & Craft Studio, for Art & Craft Days, on the 13th July. 'Villages and Town Landscapes' was the theme, and here's one of my demo's from the day. It's a town scene in Dartmouth, which I chose to illustrate a few tips on perspective.

"London Bridge, Torquay"

This unusual rock formation makes a great subject. This small painting was done earlier this year, during the summer. It was a beautiful day with hardly any movement on the water. There is a footpath, which takes you as far as this view. If you want to get any closer though, you have to take the unofficial route, which involves climbing over the wall and then scrambling down the rocks. I decided that, with my paints and easel, this would not be a wise decision. Besides, from a compositional angle, this was the best vantage point anyway.
It's one of those views that would make a good subject whatever the weather. I shall return.
